I just got a job as an accompanist for an advanced Broadway song writing workshop. Each week students will bring in new compositions and my job will be to rehearse them with the singers so the pieces can be critiqued. Honestly it sounds like a lot of fun, except that I will have to learn not to stop when I’m sightreading… It’s the classical pianist in me that wants to get every note just right, but that’s just not how it works in rehearsals. Thanks to Nicholas Olof Jacobson-Larson for the recommendation to Mike Wartofsky. Nicholas actually said that he may be in need of a pianist this summer in Minnesota! It’s all about connections I guess.
